The All New Volkswagen Touareg
The automotive industry can appear to some like a complex labyrinth, with new models and the latest tech being introduced at a rate never seen before. The SUV market is no exception to this; in fact, it could be said, that in 2018, this sector of the market has seen the most change with super car and luxury brands diversifying into it with the likes of the Bentley Bentayga, the Lamborghini Urus and the Rolls Royce Cullinan. But the SUV we are taking a look over in this article is one that kick-started Volkswagen SUV range in 2003, which now boasts 4 models: the Brand New Volkswagen Touareg. With the current model of Touareg now reaching the ripe old age of 8 years old, Volkswagen decided it was time to step on a few toes and launch this stunning new model. The initial launch will give customers two choices of V6 diesel engines: one with 228 bhp and another with 282 bhp. We can expect to see a six-cylinder petrol be added to the line-up by the end of the year, flaunting its 335 bhp engine. There is yet to be a date announced for when we can expect to see the Plug-In Hybrid version on the European market, although this has been confirmed in China.
Interior design and quality, along with the latest of in-car tech have been the focal point for this car. Whilst Sat-Nav with real time traffic information and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto are not necessarily unique or overly impressive, the optional dual-screen Innovision Cockpit completely transforms the inside of the car, giving a real futuristic feel. All the menus on the 15-inch central screen are customisable. The driver has the ability to move around the tiles to a format that suits you. Further high-tech spec available includes Night Vision Systems and an impressive HUD (Heads-Up Display.) Leather lines the seats, door panels and the dash. The whole finish of this car, from the glossy finished plastic, to the brushed metal is it exactly as you would expect from VW. There is no cheap feel. Everything is solid and extremely well made, from the indicator lever to the buttons on the multi-function steering wheel.
Beyond the endless list of tech, the exterior of the car has been given a sporty make over; in essence, the car has been squashed down and stretched out, but only ever so slightly! With a broader stance and lower roof line, this car has real road presence.
In the 21st Century, safety is everyone's number one priority.
