Harry's First Lease Car!
In his early 20s, Harry lives in Essex but commutes into the outer regions of London for his work and to see his partner. Since passing his test, he has always owned second hand cars and battled with high insurance costs and the associated maintenance costs of owning an older second hand car. When the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) was expanded in 2023, his once regular commute and social driving was immediately put to a stop. Without paying £12.50 a day, he could no longer travel to work or to see his partner in his free time. He estimated his spending would be increasing by approximately £300 per month to cover ULEZ costs. Despite never leasing before, he realised it was time to upgrade his car for a brand new one.
The most daunting thing for most people who are new to leasing is the misconception that because the car is brand new, it is not affordable. Harry was no exception to this. When he first reached out to Pendle Lease and explained his situation, he was anxious that leasing would not be an option for him as he believed brand new cars cost more. Living local to the Pendle Lease office, Harry politely asked if he could arrange delivery at our office for our staff to assist with the delivery paperwork, checking the vehicle over and giving him a helping hand with a handover and explanation as to how the car works. Of course we were happy to oblige!
Speaking to Harry after he had taken delivery of his Volkswagen Golf Black Edition, he said: "I wish I leased sooner! Having a brand new car every few years has changed the game for me and I will always lease from now on."
