Rolls Royce Hits Record Sales in 2021 Selling Over 5,500 Cars Worldwide
Wanted by the many, owned by the few. Rolls Royce is regarded as the pinnacle in luxury and super-expensive cars. The British car manufacturer has its factory in Goodwood, West Sussex and sold 5,586 cars in 2021. This is the highest number of annual sales in the company's impressive 117 year history and is a 49% increase. According to Rolls Royce, they saw record sales in Greater China, the Americas and Asia-Pacific. With these record sales, Rolls Royce have stated that their Goodwood factory is running at maximum capacity, even running a two-shift pattern to allow them to meet demand and orders for their international clientele.
"High demand for all models"
Rolls Royce stated that they have seen high demand across their entire model range, but particular demand on the Ghost and the Cullinan SUV models. This demand has seen their order books venturing well into Quarter 3 of 2022.
Demand for the Ghost saw extensive growth following the launch of the Rolls Royce Ghost Black Badge; the Black Badge takes the already impressive Rolls Royce to the next level, with blacked out features and improved performance. But it does come with a starting price of £325,000 which is £100,000 more than the standard Ghost.
Rolls Royce's first ever SUV, the Cullinan, also shot sales numbers up with the super-rich keen to get their hands on the latest model in the line up.
Increased sales were also seen in bespoke and customised vehicles, with some customers paying double the vehicle list price to customise their Rolls Royce, making it unique to them. Furthermore, other bespoke commissions, such as the Phantom Oribe co-created with luxury designer brand Hermes, the Black Badge range and the Black Badge Dawn Landspeed Collection, boosted the sales.
A greener future? Spectre
With many of their models packing engines over 6.0L, Rolls Royce are not known for their fuel economy or being overly eco-friendly. But the surge in sales follows in line with the company's recent announcement of their first fully electric car.
Chief Executive of Rolls Royce Torsten Muller-Otvos said: "we delivered more cars than at any time in the marque's 117-year history with unprecedented demand for all products in every global market. This is hugely encouraging as we prepare for the historic launch of Spectre, our first all-electric car. "
"Building on this year's success, we will continue to evolve as a true luxury brand, beyond the realms of automotive manufacturing."
Customers are expected to see the Spectre in Rolls Royce show rooms in the later part of 2023.
