20 Ford Transit Custom PHEV are set to hit the streets of London in a 12 month Cleaner Air for London customer trial.

It has been in the pipeline for a long time and many businesses have been inquiring about the Ford Transit Custom PHEV since it was announced in the UK in 2017. With the government announcing the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) for April 2019, businesses have been looking for ways to improve how green their fleet is for a greener London and to keep running costs down. Ford have specifically design the Transit Custom PHEV to run purely on its electric motor for almost all city trips. The engine of choice is Ford's award winning EcoBoost 1.0 litre petrol engine, which will act as a range extender. The engine does not actually power the wheels, this all comes from battery power. Instead, the engine boosts and charges the battery until it can be plugged in. Ford are aiming for 31 miles of zero emission range.
Whilst only 20 of the Transit Custom PHEV are hitting the streets of London as part of a 12 month Cleaner Air for London customer trial, Ford have confirmed volume production will start in 2019. Similar to Volvo, Ford have made plans to introduce 40 Electric/Hybrid vehicles internationally by 2022. They plan to make 16 of these fully electric.
